Qualitative Data

Qualitative data is information that describes qualities or characteristics. It is usually made up of words, not numbers.

Quantitative Data

Quantitative data is information that can be measured or counted. It is always shown using numbers.

  • Number of goals scored

Discrete Data

Discrete data is data that can only take specific, separate values. It is often counted using whole numbers.

  • Number of people in a room
  • Number of books on a shelf
  • Number of pets someone has

Continuous Data

Continuous data can take any value within a range. It is measured, not counted, and can include decimals.

  • Time taken to run a race
  • Weight of a bag
  • Length of a pencil
